Start your holidays smiling!

Cusco airport (CUZ)

Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) is the only airport in Cusco, Peru. It is named after the Peruvian pilot Alejandro Velasco Astete, the first pilot to cross the Andes in an aeroplane in 1925. The transfer time from Cusco airport and the city centre is just about 10 minutes if traffic is light.

There are shuttles and taxis available. Local authorities recommend travellers to organised a secure and licensed taxi, as there is an abundance of unregistered taxis outside the airport. At Ziptransfers we are experts in organising cheap, safe transfers from Cusco airport. All of our drivers are fully licensed professionals who will be delighted to welcome you as you land.

Destination Machu Picchu

Many travellers arriving at Cusco airport are headed to the world-famous lost city of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, both cultural and natural. It's one of the most familiar symbols of the Incan Empire and also one of the most popular and spectacular sets of ruins in the world. It’s 7,000 feet above sea level and nestled on a small hilltop between the Andean Mountain Range, the majestic city soars above the Urubamba Valley below. The Incan built structure has been deemed the “Lost Cities”, unknown until its relatively recent discovery in 1911.

When to visit

Machu Picchu is open year-round. July and August are the busiest months. However, you can also find crowds outside of peak season, especially on weekends. Although the rainy season starts in October and ends in April is the official rainy season, it can rain at any time.

How to get to Machu Picchu

Many travellers choose to take the scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes from the town of Ollantaytambo, from Poroy or from Cusco City. Once in Aguas Calientes, this ancient wonder is just a hike away! Why don’t you save your energy for exploring Machu Picchu and book a reliable airport taxi from Cusco airport to your hotel or to the train station.  Let us take care of you while you relax on your way to an unforgettable adventure!

Even if you’re heading there for Machu Picchu, we also recommend you to explore Cusco city if you have the time.  Cusco is a beautiful city with well-preserved colonial architecture, evidence of a rich and complex history. The city itself represents the centre of indigenous Quechua culture in the Andes, and by merely walking the streets one sees the layers of history. Spanish colonial buildings erected directly atop Inca walls line the square, while the modern tourist nightlife flourishes in their midst.

It is actually very easy! Just select your destination, travel dates and group sizes and you’ll see all the vehicle options we have for you and their cost. Whether you need an airport taxi, a private minivan, minibus or coach, we can arrange it for you!  Once you have chosen a vehicle size, you will be able to add extras such as child booster seats. You will be asked for your flight details and accommodation address since we will need that information to pre-schedule your ride.

If you have any questions about how to book, our Customer Service team will be delighted to answer all your questions and doubts via email or telephone.

How much luggage can I bring with me?

Our standard allowance is one medium suitcase and personal item per person. However, you can bring extra pieces of baggage at no cost as long as you do not exceed the vehicle capacity. For example, if you have booked an 8-seater for 5 passengers, you can bring a total of 8 suitcases (3 extra). If you are unsure about which vehicle size to choose, please contact our Customer Service team and they will be happy to help you with your doubts.

What happens if my flight into Cusco is delayed?

We provide a 24/7 English-language hotline on your booking confirmation where you can let us know about flight details and any other issues that may arise during your trip. Our driver will adjust the free waiting time to your actual flight arrival time so we can make sure you will have sufficient time to collect your luggage and head to the arrivals hall. For long delays, we might need to reassign your service to a different driver to ensure there will be a driver waiting for you when you land.
