Glasgow is a port city on the River Clyde in Scotland's western Lowlands. It's famed for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture, a rich legacy of the city's 18th-20th-century prosperity due to trade and shipbuilding.

Since it was named a European City of Culture almost 25 years ago Glasgow has become a national cultural hub, home to institutions including the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and National Theatre of Scotland, as well as museums such as the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Musuem and the Riverside Museum.

Fans of architecture will be interested to visit the work as Glasgow’s most famous architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, notable buildings he designed being the Glasgow School of Art, the Scotland Street School Museum and the interior of the Willow Tea Rooms.

Glasgow is also the perfect base to explore Lanarkshire’s attractions, such as Chatelherault Country Park, the village of New Lanark and the Antonine Wall, a world heritage site.
