Santiago de Compostela airport (SCQ)

Santiago de Compostela is the capital of northwest Spain’s Galicia región and it is best known as the culmination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, and the alleged burial site of the apostle St. James. His remains lie within the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, consecrated in 1211.

An excellent way to start a visit to the city is with a walk around the streets and squares of the historic centre. Here you will find a series of narrow streets, squares with centuries of history, many of them date from the Middle Ages. The Cathedral is particularly outstanding. Its majestic façade towers above Plaza del Obradoiro Square. After visiting this architectural gem you can attend the 12.00 midday pilgrim's mass. During the service they swing a gigantic incense burner from the ceiling of the church.

Local Galician dishes available in Santiago de Compostela include Galician-style octopus, Galician sea food pie, razor clams, mussels, cockles, or sardines, pilchards, marinaded pork and, of course, Padrón peppers. Any meal must be accompanied with Galician wine and end with a slice of local almond cake for dessert.Santiago de Compostela Airport’s location is the perfect starting point for any trip to Galicia, with easy access to other major cities such as A Coruña and Vigo and the famous Galician coast, hundreds of kilometres and wild coastline known as the Rias Altas.
