Salzburg, the fourth-largest city in Austria is a beautiful city with lovely surroundings. Having one of the best-preserved city centres, it is internationally famous for its baroque architecture. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, it attracts millions of tourists every year.

Its main sights are located in the old part of the city, such as Salzburg Cathedral, situated adjacent to the Residence square (Residenzplatz) and Cathedral square (Domplatz), which is accessed by three open arcade arches that join the Cathedral with the Salzburg Residenz and Saint Peter’s Abbey constituting an independent and unique square. Hohensalzburg Castle is one of the largest castles in Europe and is situated on top of a small hill overlooking the Old Town, an unmistakable landmark that provides Salzburg’s famous skyline. Among its most important museums, the Residenzgalerie provides a cross-section of paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries, including works by Rembrandt. A stop at 9 Getreidegasse cannot be missed, as all visitors should pay a visit to Mozart’s birthplace, now a museum, where the early life of the composer as well as his first musical instruments and his passionate interest in opera are displayed.

Among the most important events that are held in the city, the Salzburg Festival is known for its high quality of music and the involvement of international artists, being one of the world’s most exclusive music festivals.

Ancient and modern live side by side as beyond the Old town and the Castle District you can find the cosmopolitan area of Prague.
